Powerpoint and word "stopped working" message

My problem is as follows:

Powerpoint - I am able to open the program, but as soon as I start typing, I will get the error message "powerpoint has stopped working..."

Word - I am able to type and save files, but when I use "smart graphics" or insert pictures, I will get the error message "word has stopped working..."

I have no add-ins installed on either powerpoint or word.  I have tried to rename the data on the regedit to 1data, and still did not work.

I have uninstalled my printers and it still doesnt work.

I have final projects and research paper due, and I NEED HELP....

I have searched the web, but all "fix" does not fix my problem.

Hi,

To resolve this problem, delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:

1 Exit all Office programs.

2 Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

3 Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

4 On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.

5 Exit Registry Editor.

6 Restart Word.

Sincerely,

Harry

Powerpoint - I am able to open the program, but as soon as I start typing, I will get the error message "powerpoint has stopped working..."

I am having the same issue - but only on PowerPoint.  It is quite frustrating.  I am on Windows 7 SP2, have rerun diagnostics and used Office 2007 repair.  This has been a consistent issue.  I can create a presentation, but if I save it, the program stops working when I attempt to type or use the enter key in a text box.  Windows is installed on a MacBook Pro.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

this definitely does not work for Windows 7 Home Premium - Microsoft Office Professional 2010 - Version 14.0.6112.5000 (64-bit).

The problem continues to exist, though after a few tries it allows you to insert the picture without the error message popping up.

Go figure....!
